I was in the middle of a move but it’s passed.

Oh my heart was so in tune with the sweetness of her voice and delivery🌹

You think Nico perfected this one, but of course Annie comes along and takes it up to the stratosphere!! Her haunting tone even sounds like it descended from the lineage of S&G’s “For Emily” rather than “Running on Empty”! Incredible.

She's a genius. (And such a little baby St Vincent back then.)

Last year instead of making art to sell, I started making art for myself. I put aside my art business and got another job. My whole style changed and it keeps changing much faster and better than it ever has before.

This is exciting! Are you showing it off anywhere online or keeping it private for now?

I posted a mockup of the starlings a month ago on Instagram, but I'm mostly keeping it private, I've got some arty friends I'll show it to for feedback. I sold some of it last year, negative reviews from some collectors, but then others could really talk about the growth they saw, which I loved. I started to practice watercolor again on the side just for fun between big pieces. On Thursday nights I paint oil landscapes at my friend Tim's studio for a few hours. I'm finding the enjoyment of just creating for its own sake. I love it.

I like the starlings. It's interesting that your digital work is going more graphic while at the same time you are exploring two very organic painting mediums.

I know! My graphic art seems to be more about shape, composition, color design and movement. I'm focusing on how simple I can something. Landscapes are already composed most of the time. I can take a picture in the ratio I want to paint. Those are more about the texture and brushstrokes. I usually work with, at most, 5 colors, but usually 4 in my pallet. Landscapes are difficult for me to insert my feelings into. Intellectually I understand that I should be able to do that, just can't seem to unfocus enough yet.

Have fun figuring it out! I shall look forward to seeing a Rogue Rosalie landscape bursting with emotion when the time is right.
