Here’s another quote from Creativity, Inc. by the founder of Pixar Edwin E. Catmull and Amy Wallace:
When we are making a movie, the movie doesn’t exist yet. We are not uncovering it or discovering it; it’s not as if it resides somewhere and is just waiting to be found. There is no movie. We are making decisions, one by one, to create it.
People often talk about creating as finding or receiving something – a song, a story, a sculpture – that is already there. That may or may not be true of the idea, but the actual thing does not exist until you make it. Isn’t that wonderful! You have the privilege of causing new things to exist in the world.
I saw Manic Street Preachers play this in concert a few years ago. It was huge. It was life-changing.

Couldn't agree more. The idea may feel like it came from nowhere but turning that idea into a physical thing can be years of hard work. I'm currently working on a picture book that has so far taken 7 years to beat into shape. Creativity is hard work, even when its easy, but so worth it.
