Flowing with the seasons seem relatively easy. Lately I have been thinking about "ebbing." Is there something a person is supposed to be doing while in an ebb season? Or is ebbing a different type of flow? Or is ebbing just a stepping or pulling back in order to change directions (a relatively short phase between flows)? We think of ebb and flow in terms of the tides or the waxing and waning of the moon, but what is the pattern of ebb and flow for a human? These are the questions that I am thinking about.

I am in flow but just out of ebb. Ebb, for me is learning, quiet and focused. Flow is practice of what I just learned.

I love the idea of ebbing with the seasons. Thank you for putting that in my head, Lynn. It immediately makes me think of two things.

I read the first this morning:

‘I once heard someone on Desert Island Discs talking about their life. They said the most valuable lessons they learnt at school weren’t the academic ones. Every week they would have one hour scheduled, sitting quietly at their desk. Learning to be alone with their thoughts. Learning it was OK to be silent. How great is that?’ —Dave Trott (Predatory Thinking, 2013)

Second, in autumn trees shed their leaves. It’s something to do with a healthy, necessary letting go.
