I don’t like ball point pens. They move too easily. I like the control I get from the drag of a pencil or fountain pen.
Sans Forgeticais a font that is deliberately difficult to read. It was ’created by a multidisciplinary team of designers and behavioural scientists from RMIT University’ to help you remember what you read. ‘The “desirable difficulty” you experience when reading information formatted in Sans Forgetica prompts your brain to engage in deeper processing.’It turns out this font didn’t do that at all, thus the dead link above, but the concept of ‘desirable difficulty’ is a thing. (Always be updating your knowledge.)One of the best working relationships of my life started when the when my client’s marketing guy said the logo I designed for them wasn’t good enough. After I stopped being righteously angry, I called him up. We met for coffee. He was right about the logo. I went back to work and made a better one. Then he started hiring me to do design work for all his clients.

2. By striking out that entire statement, I had to struggle a bit to read it and now I remember it better. So that's ironic!
3. This has happened to me so many times throughout my career, especially in the early days. Usually, as a designer, you end up learning how to put your ego down and let clients pick what's best for them. Which is why you NEVER EVER EVER show them the logo you hate. They will always pick the logo you hate AND ask you to tweak it.
