10 more years?
Five more years?
It’s a question worth asking yourself. When you get the answer, you might carry on as normal. You might need to recalibrate your attitude towards your work. You might need to make an exit plan and then take action.
I stayed at a job too long once. It was a great job. I still love the people I worked with. But I needed to leave. I stayed because I was afraid of losing the security. I didn’t make a plan. When I finally did leave because I couldn’t cope with staying any longer, I wasn’t prepared. I ended up being underemployed for two years. I’m still climbing out of that financial hole.
If you’re going to need to leave, make a plan. Take action.
This week I’m thinking about work, doing work you love, and success. If you have thoughts about work to share, the FOREST would love to read them. Tap on the title or the comment button.
Grow slowly.

… long enough for something to go wrong
Every song from every past email:
Thanks for this post. I too have stayed too long in a job once and it did me some real harm that has taken some time to move on from. Trying to balance the need to pay bills with the need to feel fulfilled and stimulated is a tough one. We get used to the status quo in the same way we got used to Status Quo. We loved the way they used the same chords over and over and how they did the crossing legs in front of each other thing - but we never noticed that we were bored of their music until we left them and found new stuff. (This went in an odd direction!!) If your job isn't helping you be the best you can be then either find a new job or find a thing that you can do alongside your job that plugs the gap....But most of all, as the Venerable Arborist Jeff says - Make a plan!!!
