One.
Throwback! This illustration by Maurice Sendak is from Open House for Butterflies by Ruth Krauss. I originally shared it in TREE 95.
Two.
Fear is often nebulous.
Dread is a fog.
It can make you feel that everything is wrong.
When you name the specific thing that is wrong, you immediately have power.
You can name all the other things that aren’t wrong.
You can grasp the size of the problem.
You can research.
You can plan.
You can take action.
It all starts with naming.
Handy hint: if you can’t immediately name the cause of the fear fog, you can start with naming the things it isn’t. Name the things that are going well. Soon you will be able to name the bad feeling too.
Three.
There is so much great soul music being made right now. Here is some of it.
Naming works for more things than fear. With anything negative that has happened or is happening to you, calling it what it actually is can be a powerful first step to getting out, getting over or getting through.
In case you are wondering, I chose the alien head emoji for this week’s posts because I’m writing about dealing with things that happen to you. One of the things that may1 happen is aliens kidnapping you and then experimenting on you in a lab deep inside their spaceship.
Grow slowly

It definitely won’t.
