(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFaVEb9Fkb4) Kraus and Sendak--to my mind--are all about the power we do have (and that we don't). Sendak said he wrote and created always for himself. So it is amazing how his work speaks to others. But it does.
Someday look up the collected letters of Ursula Nordstrom, their amazing editor, titled "Dear Genius"--how she addressed Lord Sendak! (She discovered him, window-dressing, is the story...)

I also love A Hole is to Dig. I wish I could arrange simple words the way Krauss does. Sendak is a genius.
