A note: I know 2.100 should not be a thing. Somehow I ended up with a few extra posts in this quarter. This is the last week of The Book of TREE 2. I’m taking next week off to get the third quarter organised.
A thing I’ve learned about ADHD is that it’s not so much a deficit of attention but an inability to control where I direct my attention. If you’re ‘normal’ when it comes to attention, you would be amazed at how fast I can jump from what I mean to be doing to being deeply engrossed in something unrelated. All it takes is a little flash of ‘squirrel’.
I’m 51. Even if I live to 100, I’m over halfway done. It’s a time of life that makes a person contemplate.
Every week I spend
40 hours at my job,
49+ hours sleeping,
40ish hours doing the stuff of life,
which leaves less than 40 hours in which I’m free to choose what I do.
That’s a decent amount of time, unless I let the squirrels direct it. If you’ve been in the FFOREST for any length of time, you’ll know the work I’ve done to lock Facebook, Instagram, X and the news into secure cages. I’ve been getting there with Substack over the past year. There’s still a way to go. That particular squirrel needs a stronger lock on its cage. But the trajectory is good and it it this:
It’s my life and
I, not the internet, will choose how I spend it.
Who’s in charge of your free time? If it’s not you, what are you going to do about it?
‘you are the universe experiencing yourself’ – I loved this meditation on the universe and what it means to be human.
