Allow me to evangelise with the fervour of a new believer as I share an update on my use of the Seinfeld method.
I am entirely impressed by the power the mark on a calendar wields over my schedule. Every day in January I spent at least
10 minutes exercising
10 minutes learning BSL
10 minutes working on my Bonanza Clementine project
Some days I did only 10 minutes of each. Some days I did more. Some days I got the minutes done early. More days I did them nearly at bedtime. But I did them.
As a result,
I’ve already written the BSL presentation that I have to give for my next exam IN SIX WEEKS.
I’ve made real progress on Bonanza’a story.
I’m increasing my flexibility and strength and not just running three times a week.
I’m using other small snippets of time to get chores and tasks out the way because I’ve demonstrated to myself how much can be accomplished in a few minutes. This frees up larger chunks of time to do things I want. More important, getting little tasks out of the way reduces the mental load I carry. My brain is appreciative.
Two reasons why I think this is working so well for me:
They are things I genuinely want to do.
10 minutes is a ridiculously easy goal to achieve.
I hope to be as awesome as Kim Gordon in 20 years when I’m 70. (Shout out to my 20 year-old daughter for turning me on to Sonic Youth.)
Happy Weekend
Jeff
The pattern is soooo satisfying!!
