Welcome to a new week! This week Thomas Plaatsman choosing the music, Caroline Holmes is providing the art, and I’m running four TREEpeats because 1) it’s been a while and 2) I’m working on some new material for TREE and I need a little more time to develop it.
Seasons exist. They are stronger, bigger and older than you. It makes good sense to flow with them.
Here are some seasons we’re in right now:
high inflation,
the decline of one empire and the rise of another,
rising nationalism and localism in reaction/response to globalism,
a warming planet,
Spring (Autumn – hey, southern hemisphere!),
Monday.
All of these seasons are vastly bigger than you.
All of them affect you.
All of them pose threats.
All of them offer opportunities
when you find their flow.
Caroline Holmes is my daughter’s girlfriend. She’s lovely and funny and kicking off the week with an aunt eater.
Thomas Plaatsman writes Cultural Reads, a bi-weekly newsletter with book, movie & music tips from countries all around the world. It’s very good. I’ve been subscribed for the last three issues. If you want to enrich your life with creativity from all over the world, I highly recommend that you join me in reading Cultural Reads. —Jeff
‘Fela Kuti was a revolutionary in music in life. He combined James Brown's soul sound with African rhythms and created the popular Afrobeats genre. One of my favorite songs is Gentleman (Spotify).
’Check out his son Seun Kuti with Uruguayan Newen Afrobeat for a more modern video.’
