When Drew Carey presented Whose Line is it Anyway?, his catchphrase was, ‘The show where everything’s made up and the points don’t matter.’
What I’m thinking this Monday morning as we start a new week is that Drew’s catchphrase applies to much of what people spend their lives obsessing over:
social status
office politics
celebrity
gossip
consumerism
annoyances
You and I already know this, of course, but that doesn’t necessarily stop us from getting distracted by points that don’t matter. That’s why I think it might be helpful to carry a little Drew Carey in your head to remind you to return your attention to the things that do matter, like joy and kindness and doing the work that feeds deepest part of you.
Drew Carey voice:
‘That’s right, the points don’t matter, just like Stacey getting the credit for that pivot table instead of you.’
‘That’s right, the points don’t matter, just like whatever Will and Kate supposedly said about Harry and Meghan over dinner in 2019.’
‘That’s right, the points don’t matter, just like Terry driving a much nicer car than you.’
‘That’s right, the points don’t matter, just like getting stuck in the slowest checkout queue ever’
Thanks, Drew!
I asked Midjourney to create an image of Drew Carey as a little angel sitting on a woman’s shoulder. Midjourney clearly wasn’t paying attention. Please enjoy the hands.
I used to listen to The Naked and Famous a lot. Then I forgot about them. Christine reminded me of this song over the weekend. The voice layering at the end is a thing-and-a-half (Spotify).

Perfect way to reframe the monkey mind.
Opinions are a waste of thinking. Everything changes daily so why feed ego? Dug the hands and song. Thanks. Back in Swivelization, Tucson 🌹
