There are a lot of artists I respect who are upset about AI generated art. I totally get it. A computer does in a few seconds what took them years of learning and hours of work. And the computer got the ability to copy their style because it ate a bunch of their images off the internet for free. It’s a weird new kind of theft and forgery.
AI generated art, music, writing, etc. aren’t going away.
Human skill and creativity aren’t going away.
The creative people who will thrive in the years ahead are the ones who embrace AI as a tool and learn to use it well and also the ones who find a niche doing things AI can’t. (Don’t assume you know what AI can and can’t do.)
The copyright and compensating artists stuff will get worked out over the next decade like it did with online music distribution, but it won’t resemble today’s status quo and none of the ripped-off artists will get a fair deal. Would you rather be angry for a decade or would you rather jump on new opportunities?
It’s easy to dismiss AI as something for the kids or the tech heads. Please don’t.
You have time to learn about AI. You won’t miss out just because you didn’t start last year.
A good way to start now is to search [thing you create] and AI. Then dive down the rabbit hole.
I asked DALL-E 2 to make a billboard advertising fitness pills. I think these are the real deal because they are totally forriccliss and infused with mutmic frerbs. Buy today!
“I wanna change my star sign / because it don’t suit me.’ Interesting note on embracing technological change (or not): Gallagher refuses to use in-ear monitors when playing live. He says they make him feel cut off from the audience (Spotify).
Stay curious. Keep growing.

A great attitude to AI. I tried to check out ChatGPT the other day. But it is so overwhelmed that there is now a waiting list for it. So I'm on the list.
It's a weird new world...
