🌵 TREE 478: Patterns that don’t fit reality

“I should be helping.”

This is what I was thinking on Saturday as the movers carried my possessions from my house to their van. Never mind that I paid them a bunch of money to move my stuff. Never mind that I had other things I needed to be doing.

“I should be helping.”

???!!!

The service ethic is so drilled into me, so much a part of me that sometimes it points me in the wrong direction. Sometimes it makes me feel bad about things that would have no emotional effect on someone else.

There’s nothing big or profound here, just a reminder that life changes, growth happens and your thoughts and emotions don’t always keep up. Sometimes your patterns of feeling and thinking need an update. And that’s totally fine and normal.

We’re making progress. It’s going to take a while. While we get moved in to our new digs in Dursley, I’m going to be easing back into TREE. Please keep your expectations low for the next few weeks.

I listened to Achtung Baby for the first time in a long time last week. What an album! I could have chosen any song. I chose this one because it has one of my favourite lyrics of all time: “And I must be an acrobat to talk like this and act like that”. Also I love a really hard-driving song in 6/8. (Spotify)
