I’m an artist. I’m also an artist that wants to make sales. I’m also an artist with a family that takes time to nurture.
What do I paint and how do I paint it? The answer for me was to take smaller bites out of my art and only work on art that I like. This lets me focus and get quality work done in smaller amounts of time. Because my brain wants to do it.
Often my customers will clamour for a specific subject, but I’ve found that when I do paint that request, it doesn’t sell. They already have a picture in their heads and my version is not what they truly want.
My job when I worked in advertising was to create what was in my clients’ heads and make it marketable. Now, my job is to be true to those clicks in my ear.
