As you know, everyone is more divided than ever. They are trying to destroy our way of life. No where is safe, and if anywhere is safe, you’d better worry because they are coming to ruin it. We know this is true because it’s on the news.
But then how do you explain the fact that people aren’t grabbing things out of your trolley as you shop. When there’s a lot of traffic someone will make space for you to merge in. Strangers smile at each other sometimes and say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ and ‘excuse me’.
I guarantee that a bunch of those non-stealing, merge-allowing, polite, smiling people are on exactly the opposite side from you on all those issues that people are on opposite sides of. And yet you help each other out in traffic and they let you jump the queue when they’re doing a big shop and you’re only buying two things.
The baseline of our lives together isn’t all the fear and division you see on the news. It is the fact that in day to day life the vast majority of people are pretty good at getting along with each other. If you want hope of good change, there’s your starting place, not the news, not the people in power blaming whatever ‘them’ is convenient.

If I’m being honest, I avoid the news most days. The headlines alone are depressing enough. I stick to those for the most part. Kindness is everywhere. Just look around.

I was reading on the person whose about to complete walking around the world on a dare after 27 years. He said his biggest take away after all those years was that 99.99% of the people he met are all good people. Offering rest, food, friendship– I'm leaning into this type of news for 2026.
