Ram Dass was crazy. He wrote in Grist for the Mill about being off on an astral plane having a conversation with his deceased mentor. Insane, right?
He also wrote about the importance of following a path – a religion or a philosophy. He’s agreeing with Jordan Peterson (also crazy but in a different way) who says that following almost any coherent philosophy will give you a better life than the alternative, which is chaos. Ram Dass goes on to say that if you are truly following a path, the path will inevitably take you beyond the path.
Think about any truly wise person. Their wisdom and experience can’t be contained in a single religion or philosophy. Even if they are still working within a tradition, they are not constrained by it.
Ram Dass saw this while he was doing all the drugs and hanging out on the astral planes, and he explained it in a way that ‘normal’ people can understand and benefit from it, provided they don’t get all hung up on the crazy.
A lot of crazy people are onto something true. Learn from them.
I’m four songs into Cheat Codes as I write this. I could have picked any of them. This is superb stuff.
‘Invincible Summer’ is available today and tomorrow only.
The art
‘Invincible Summer’ is a digital + analogue impressionist view of Selsley Common photographed on Boxing Day 2024 and turned into vibrant summer scene.
It’s a beautiful reminder
that seasons always change,
that in the cold dark of winter summer is already preparing to emerge,
that the hubris of humanity is no match for the deeper flow of nature,
that you are part of the deep flow,
that there is always reason for hope.

Grow slowly
Jeff
Deep calls unto deep, “hello???” I have been growing slowly, letting roots go deep and grounding. Preparing for the next season at the door 🚪, I sow seeds of gentleness.
