A couple years ago
I had to work an hour late –
an entire hour.
In my mind I was drafting
an email of complaint,
imagining Real Talk with my boss,
grumbling about the unacceptable
behaviour of my CEO,
getting ready to go off
over maybe the third time
I’ve worked an hour late
in 10 months at my job
in a creative agency.
Then I had a moment of insight:
I am hungry.
I went downstairs, grabbed
a spoonful of peanut butter
and a tiny pack of love hearts.
Five minutes later
I was feeling silly about my grumpiness,
happy to muck in and help out,
recognising the fact
that because Christine
was at a friend’s house
this minor inconvenience
was only affecting me,
grateful for my great job.
I lost sight of reality
not because my attitude
was rotten,
not because I needed
to work through some issues,
merely because my
blood sugar was low.
Sometimes things are
Actual Issues.
A lot of the time,
you just need a snack
or a nap
or a walk.
Next time you’re out of
your normal happy vibe, ask:
✅ Am I hungry?
✅ Am I tired?
✅ Do I need the toilet?
✅ Do I need to move around?
