We call people who do evil debased things monsters.
We call people who serve altruistically angels.
We separate ourselves from both,
as if those extremes were
something other than
human.
We comfort ourselves: I could never be a monster!
I’m only human, not a celestial being.
Better to speak truth: Beware
of how low one can sink.
Imagine how high
one can fly!
This is the midweek energy we need.
Grow slowly

You should listen to Kate Bowler’s podcast Everything Happens. It relates to what you are saying. She says, “Father Ron Rolheiser, a Roman Catholic priest and theologian
has this beautiful way of reframing what we usually treat as a problem—that restless yearning, the grief of what wasn’t, the disillusionment with church or faith or life as we hoped it would be. He calls it the ache that makes us human. And maybe, he says, it’s not something we outgrow. Maybe it’s something holy.
