Why do I always write,
‘Grow Slowly’
?
You are a large complex organism. Slow is the only healthy way for you to grow
Slow is sustainable. It’s not hard to grow a little every day.
Slow growth is strong. We build things out of wood, not algae.
Slow is fast in the long run.
Let’s say you improved at something by a massive 50% three times a year. At the end of the year you would be 3.4 times better at it than you were at the beginning of the year. That’s really good. Fast growth can give you impressive results.
Let’s say that, instead of three big spurts, you improved at something by a minuscule 1% every day. At the end of the year, you would be 37.8 times better at it than you were at the beginning. Slow growth gives you crazy results.
(Obviously, these numbers are snatched out of the air. The example takes no account of the bumpiness of real life or the law of diminishing returns. But the point is valid.)
If you want to grow fast, grow slowly and consistently.
It was so cold in the UK last week, my heating came on. In June!

Grow slowly
Jeff
I love the mantra, grow slowly🪷 Truth resonates. It rings true. I am moving 5 hours away and am in the middle of the end date. As you said, Jeff, when we endeavor a big project, you lay it out and make plans. You must calculate some space for the unexpected. I came home to no water and I returned to clean. Do you know what I did? Laugh! It was unexpected but I had wondered what upsets there would be at the outset. I predetermined my move to be easy and graceful. It has been. Why? I choose it to be. I designed it that way. I accept the chaos. There are no problems, only solutions. And the water got turned on! 🔧🚰
