👻 FIELD GUIDE 50: The Witching Hour

Many moons ago, while I was working my very first job, I met Brigid. Growing up in Savannah, GA you know you live in a pretty major city, but it has a small town feel. Brigid never meets a stranger and she makes everyone feel accepted and welcome.

Also growing up in Savannah, you know full well that you’re living in a very haunted city. Whether you believe in ghosts or paranormal activity or not, is not for me to sway you, but there are too many instances in my life for it to be considered coincidence.

This week Brigid brings to us, her knack for connecting with the other side. She is sharing her journey of pursuing her hobby turned career and successful business.

We all have quirks, specialties, or things about us that might not be widely accepted. I urge you to not hide yourself for the acceptance of others. What lies within you can be your own success and Brigid shows us that this week.

My name is Brigid Pitts. I was born and raised in Savannah, GA. I’m so blessed to call this place home. I grew up on Tybee Island, GA, for the majority of my life.

I have always enjoyed the beauty of it all, but I did have a lot of supernatural encounters throughout my childhood, leading into my adult life. This included poltergeist activity to ghostly apparitions. I guess you can say that I was always destined to pursue the paranormal.

I was terrified of the spirit realm for a long time, until I reached my teenage years. With my friends, I would go to cemeteries and abandoned buildings in order to explore the unknown, and found a fascination in it.

Growing into adulthood it was more of a hobby, until Covid-19 happened. That is when I realised I wanted it to be my mission to find new ways to express my passion, start a ghost tour company and become successful.

I’ve always had paranormal experiences but never found a need to express that to a lot of people throughout the years. I talked about my haunted encounters and did tarot card readings, but thought neither could be something bigger until it actually happened. Sometimes people can judge you and that’s okay. I think people don’t like what they cannot comprehend. That is why my business is a mixture of spirituality and science.

I am proud to say that I am the Owner of The Witching Hour Paranormal Ghost Tour Company here in Savannah.

I started this business in January of 2019.  What started out as a hobby became a reality. I met my business partner, Chris Johnson, after ghost hunting with a friend of mine who worked for him.

We used to wander the downtown area of Savannah and film our ghost hunting adventures and definitely some laughs through our crazy experiences. Eventually, Chris approached me about starting my own business when I was in a low place career-wise and not seeing a future in what I was doing.

Almost four years later, the business is expanding and we have some great things in the making. Alongside the successful tours in the historic downtown of Savannah, we are now running them on my home of Tybee Island!

We started a ‘Ghost Cruise’ on June 16th, 2023. This is a sunset tour along the haunted waterways around Savannah, including the infamous Bonaventure Cemetery - a first for the area.

I’m currently working on a podcast with my boyfriend, who is a Parapsychologist from Wales in the United Kingdom. He is undertaking his PhD at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen.

Brigid and Dylan. Dylan is The Witching Hour’s parapsychologist. Together they are Savannah’s only nightly ghost tour with a 99% success rate.

The podcast is called ‘Banshee and Bwgans’, which stems from our respective Irish and Welsh heritage and shared love of the paranormal. We want to talk about supernatural experiences, but also explain the logical side of things. What you see on TV isn’t what we want to portray to the public.

Ghost hunting isn’t wandering around in the dark yelling for the ghosts to come out. We want to get that point across to everyone that tunes in or takes our ghost tours.
