If you are drawing an elf (or other fantasy character), you give it pointy ears. That’s what everybody does. But it’s just convention. There’s not a rule. Elf ears are not like unicorn horns.
Sometimes – often – pointy ears are a lazy shortcut.
Next time you are creating characters for your fantasy comic, consider not giving them pointy ears.
Every genre of art,
every literary form,
every style of music,
every sector of business
has the equivalent of pointy ears.
If you are striving for originality, maybe ditch the pointy ears.
