An express train roars through a small countryside station, shuttling people from one metropolis to the next. It is impossible to board, too fast, too dangerous.
Suited figures blur past, speeding by to broker their power deals. No one thinks to make time or room for you – you’re too small-fry and, besides, you’re waiting in entirely the wrong place. Anyway, even if you could climb aboard, your choice of destination would be no choice at all. And once you’re on, you’re stuck. There is no getting off until you arrive where you’re being taken.
So you stand alone on the tiny platform, feeling more trainspotter than adventurer as you watch the locomotive barrelling down the line and out of eyeshot. Then you turn, preparing to make your own way.
Yours is not the common route. There are no pre-paid tickets or pre-laid tracks to where you’re headed. A wayfarer you may be, but there is autonomy in your wandering. You’re not lost, you’re free. Although if you are to cut this path, you must act now because there will soon be no more time. Your window will close.
So spend not a second more wondering at another’s adventure.
This one is yours.
