One.
Two.
When I began teaching, I realised that we may look at our world, but we don’t see it. We see a perception of what we think it looks like.
You can put an apple on a table in front of a student and tell them to draw that apple and they will, almost without fail, draw a side view of an apple with a leaf on the stem. This is what they have been taught an apple looks like. Never mind what the apple right in front of them looks like. I decided to talk to them about being friends with what they were drawing. They needed to know the details to be a good friend.
I keep seeing this quote, Be the good you want to see in the world. It’s not just being the good, but seeing the good that is already there.
Challenge your perceptions of what our world looks like.
‘Nobody sees a flower really; it is so small. We haven't time, and to see takes time – like to have a friend takes time.’
—Georgia O'Keeffe
