🎒 TREE 203: Be open, be honest

Me: Hi, I need to order some hardware.

Manufacturer: Ok, what metal — zinc alloy, brass, aluminium, zamak, stainless steel or something else?

Old me: Umm... aluminium?

New me: I’ve no idea. Let me tell you what I want it for. I need your experience.

(Insight: Aluminium is super light-weight and easily recyclable, but very brittle, so can easily break under weight.)

Learning to be open about ignorance has been my single biggest win in the past few years. I rely on people who are experts. I involve people I trust. I ask and learn every chance I get.
