TREE’s guest author/illustrator this week is Jess Lea-Wilson.
Broadly speaking, I work in food marketing, which can mean anything from working on copywriting or editorial projects, to designing new packaging (sometimes in collaboration with the brilliant Jeff Gill), to honing new and delicious products. It suits me very well because I am interested in food, design and words. Variety is the spice of life after all.
Like every other freelance millennial, I have a monthly newsletter. It's called Good Things, because I wanted a broad place to gather things that I think are beautiful or interesting enough to share. I hope this week gives you a taste of some of these good things.
Getting a card or letter in the post is a joy, isn’t it? It’s that classic warm glow of ‘someone cares about me enough to find a stamp and then a letterbox and then remember to post the letter that has been in their diary, fraying at the edges for possibly for weeks’ feeling.
My brilliant friends Alison and Brian started a charity where they distribute letters, written by people like me and you (it’s been me a few times, and I hope it will be you a few times now too) to people in hospital having cancer treatment. It feels strange and yet very good to write a letter to a stranger. Try it.
There’s more good news: Jess is choosing the music too. She’s off to a strong start with The Beatles. (Also, It’s nice to be called ‘brilliant’. Thanks, Jess!) —Jeff
