Let’s start with the exercise today.
Third drawing
Do the worst drawing of a bird that you can. Make it awful. Don’t hold back. Go for terribly horrendously bad. Imagine your drawing is a Lewis Capaldi song. That bad.
Some things to notice:
Doing terrible drawings is fun.
When there’s no pressure to be ‘good’ your creativity kicks into high gear.
You probably thought about what a bird actually looks like so you could do the opposite. By doing this bad drawing, you caused yourself to pay closer attention.
Doing a terrible drawing did not humiliate you. Drawing is a thing to do, not a thing to score yourself on.
Even though your drawing is terrible, there’s probably something quite charming about it. Like Lewis Capaldi.
Draw like you did back when your age was a single digit, with no regard for goodness or badness. Draw to explore and communicate and think. Draw for the joy of it. Let the benefits show up on their own schedule.
Today’s hand with beak and eyes is by Christine G.
Now it’s your turn. Be proud of your terrible bird. Send a photo of it to me!
Draw daily.
Jeff
I think Lewis Capaldi is a delightful human, but there’s no way I’m choosing one of his songs.
